Chanthaburi gastronomy

If you still think food is just something to eat—think again. In Chanthaburi, flavor is becoming a creative force reshaping the future of an entire province Chanthaburi Gastronomy.

Chanthaburi: A Small City with Big Flavor

More than just a tropical fruit haven or a peaceful coastal town, Chanthaburi is emerging as a model for what it means to be a Creative City—a city that leverages the power of local food culture to drive innovation, tourism, and sustainable development.

At the heart of this transformation is the project “Mahat Sa Chan: The Marvel of Flavor – Chanthaburi Gastronomy”. This initiative not only elevates local cuisine into Functional Food, but also promotes Gastronomy Tourism—a rising trend among travelers and food lovers worldwide.

More Than Food (Chanthaburi Gastronomy) : A Story of Community

The “Chanthaburi Gastronomy” project takes a holistic approach to developing local cuisine, integrating the entire food chain—from sourcing ingredients and ensuring quality, to processing and preparation. The project draws on the province’s rich natural bounty, including tropical fruits, indigenous herbs, fresh seafood, and region-specific ingredients.

Every dish tells a story—of the land, the people, and their traditions. With the guidance of professional chefs and culinary experts, local cooks, restaurants, and food entrepreneurs are learning new skills and techniques, helping to raise the standard of Chanthaburi cuisine to international levels.

From Local Plates to a Global Stage: UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy (Chanthaburi Gastronomy)

On April 4, 2025, Ms. Darunee Thammaphodol, Advisor to the Ministry of Culture and Chair of the Thai Creative Cities Promotion Committee, visited Chanthaburi. Her visit included the National Maritime Museum and the Underwater Archaeology Division, as part of preparations for Chanthaburi to host the 27th ASEAN Sub-Committee on Culture (SCC).

The visit also served to explore proposals for cultural development—especially in the realm of gastronomy—to seek support from the ASEAN Cultural Fund. These efforts aim to officially position Chanthaburi as a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) in the field of gastronomy.

Edible Culture: A Living, Shareable Experience

With the belief that food is the root of culture, Chanthaburi is creating not just a variety of flavors but also immersive cultural experiences. Visitors can take part in community-based ingredient sourcing tours, hands-on cooking workshops, and food festivals that offer an authentic taste of Chanthaburi’s identity.

An Invitation to Discover Chanthaburi

The province of Chanthaburi warmly invites both locals and travelers from across the country to participate in upcoming activities under this initiative. Come and discover the depth of local flavors, and the cultural richness that makes Chanthaburi unlike anywhere else.

Because Chanthaburi is not just a place to pass through—it’s a place to stay, to explore, and to feel fulfilled through food and tradition.

“Suk Tuk Wan Tee Chanthaburi”— Happiness Every Day in Chanthaburi

More than a slogan, this phrase embodies the soul of the province. Here, food speaks not just to the palate but to the heart. Through “Chanthaburi Gastronomy,” the province is redefining how we see local food—and how it can inspire a more sustainable, creative, and flavorful future for all.
